Sport
Our school is well known for its sporting achievements with our students having competed at State and National levels.
A wide range of opportunities is available including carnivals, district and regional sport, inter-school sport and our school's House teams - Blue Dolphins, Gold Dingoes, Green Eagles and Red Emperors.
Our core sports program introduces students to various activities and provides the skills for them to then participate in various games and team sports.
School Carnivals
Students are involved in three big sports carnivals each year:
- Athletics Carnival - Primary and Secondary School students
- Cross Country Carnival - Primary and Secondary School students
- Swimming Carnival - Secondary School students
Inter-school Sport
Two competitions are played throughout the year:
- CISSA (Cairns Inter-school Secondary Sporting Activities) - for Secondary School students in Years 10 to 12, played in Semester 1.
- JSS (Junior Secondary Sport) - for Secondary School students in Years 7 to 9, played in Semester 2.
Students travel off-campus during school to compete against other schools in the Cairns region. Sports within these competitions include:
- AFL
- Basketball
- Netball
- Soccer
- Touch Football
- Volleyball
In the JSS competition, we have been Cairns champions in touch football, volleyball, and basketball. And since the introduction of the Aggregate Champion School (that is, most points per school population), we have won Champion School several times.
In the CISSA competition, we won the Division 1 Championship in AFL and girls' soccer; runners-up in Division 1 for boys' touch football, girls' touch football, and girls' volleyball.
District & Regional Sport
District Sport
Students who excel in school sports carnivals may then be selected in College teams and compete against other schools in the Cairns district.
TCN (Trinity Coast North for 13 - 19 year-olds).
Students may nominate for district trials which are held throughout the year. Students who attend district trials may be selected for a regional team.
Regional Sport
Our region is Peninsula. Selection for a Peninsula team provides students with a pathway to State and National Championships. In order to be selected for a Peninsula team, students generally need to attend district trials, although in some cases there is a paper nomination process.
Over the years we have had several students progress through the Queensland Schools State Team in their chosen sport - this is the highest possible achievement in Australian School Sport.
District and regional ports include:
- AFL
- Baseball
- Basketball
- Cricket
- Football (Soccer)
- Hockey
- Netball
- Softball
- Rugby League
- Rugby Union
- Touch Football
- Volleyball
Extra-curricular Sport
There are many extra-curricular sports opportunities offered at the school throughout the year. Student demand and local competition will usually dictate what these are and when they occur. Some of the regular activities include:
- AFL
- Basketball
- Martial Arts
- Mountain biking
- Netball
- Rugby – League and Union
- Surf lifesaving
- Touch football
- Volleyball
